Metacam 5 mg/20ml Solution for Injection for Dogs and Cats
What is it?
Metacam 5 mg/ml solution for injection for dogs and cats is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drug (NSAID) which is a type of painkiller used to reduce pain and inflammation.
In dogs, it can be used for the alleviation of inflammation and pain in both acute and chronic
musculoskeletal disorders, reduction of post-operative pain and inflammation following both
orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.
In cats, it can be used for the reduction of mild to moderate post-operative pain and inflammation
following surgical procedures such as orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery. Metacam 5 mg/ml can
be followed 24 hours later for up to 4 days with Metacam 0.5 mg/ml oral suspension for cats and
guinea pigs.
Metacam 5 mg/ml injection is available in 2 bottle sizes:
• 10 ml
• 20 ml
How is it administered?
Metacam 5 mg/ml solution for injection can be administered subcutaneously or intravenously
to dogs, and subcutaneously to cats.
Important information
Metacam can only be obtained with a prescription. For cats weighing less than 2 kg, Metacam®
0.5 mg/ml oral suspension for cats and guinea pigs should be used. For further information about
